High School Career
I am a student at South Western High School, and I enjoy taking the more technical classes that my school offers and I like learning a variety of things. In my freshmen year, I took CAD 1 and Practical Electronics. Both of those classes were different from anything I have even been able to do in school before. In my sophomore year, I took Graphics 1 and Power Tech. Graphics let me expand on my creativity by letting me choose what I wanted to do the project on. At the start, I didn't have much interest in Power Tech but when we got to the end of the class we worked on home electricity, and that sparked my interest and made me think of the possibility of it becoming a career I look into in the future. In my junior year, I decided I wanted to take CAD 2. When the class first started I was thinking about dropping the class because I was scared of not being able to complete all of my work on time. As I got farther into the course I realized that it wasn't that bad and I ended up liking the class more than I thought I would and was one of the students that was the farthest ahead working to get everything in on time. I look forward to being able to take more classes as the years go on and find out what I want my career to be and expand my working knowledge even more.
Outside of School
Outside of school, I spend most of my free time playing video games and spending time with my girlfriend, but when I'm not doing that I'm being a volunteer firefighter. All my life I have grown up around people that have been firefighters like my grandfather, my dad, my uncle, and even my mom a little. It runs in the family and when I turned 16 I made the ultimate decision of starting my career as a firefighter. I submitted my application in November of 2021 and started taking Fire 101 in the spring of 2022 to kick off my career. After that class was finished and I became cleared as an external firefighter I took my Hazmat class to become cleared as an interior firefighter. After some time I decided to take Rescue Tech Vehicle and Machinery Rescue and by the time that class was over I got officially voted into the department once my probationary period was over. In the spring of 2023, I got brand new county-issued turnout gear and in the summer I took Fire Survival and Rescue. Being a volunteer firefighter and getting some experience in the field has made me want to pursue becoming a career firefighter and continue my training even further to eventually become a Firefighter/Paramedic.
